Hey, so a couple weeks ago I wired in an aftermarket stereo, speakers, amp and sub. Everything was operating properly until today when I received a call while my phone was plugged into the auxiliary. I pulled over, took the call and when I went to plug back in but my stereo had lost power. I found the blown fuse and replaced it, now the deck will illuminate when I hit the display button but turns off shortly after and is unresponsive to anything else. My ground seems solid, all the connections behind the deck are fine and I even checked every single fuse in the box to be sure. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
He’s from Victoria, BC. It might be dungeness crab chowdah, which sounds pretty good.

Do you still have the old stereo to plug in and see if it works? I know that can be a pain. But it sounds like something, possibly internal to the new stereo shorted out and caused some damage.

That crossed my mind, unfortunately I cut the old wiring harness' wires as close to the pins as I could to make splicing the new one easier.

Why did you cut the factory harness at all?

I am not sure if they were always available but the previous owner of my truck did not take that route... I have a complete dash harness to put "right" but I haven't found the ambition to do that just so the radio harness isn't hacked up.

You can buy the factory radio side connectors. I'll try to send you a link - no need to replace the whole dash harness, just solder a few wires and you're done.
I think this is the right one for you, Justin.

For what it's worth, the connector set they used later was a lot more common. You could also switch to that so you're guaranteed to be able to buy aftermarket adapter harnesses for years to come.

Well, they also drilled a bunch of holes in the lower dash support, my "new" harness is still in a perfect dash support. The plan when I am deficient enough in entertainment is to swap both the dash support and harness at the same time.

Thanks for finding that, I didn't know they made them yet.

Did you try pushing the little reset button on the radio?????????? Normally when a radio acts up it just needs the ol reset pushed. try that. it might save you time and frustration.

So I managed to find another JVC deck with the same harness and it's doing the same thing, the only response is to the display button which lights it up for a few seconds. I pressed the reset button on both decks, the CD input does its typical noise then nothing.

Gotcha. When installing aftermarket radios in virtually any vehicle, you can buy an adapter harness to connect to the factory wiring, then just splice that adapter to your radio so the factory wiring is untouched.
