Welcome to TRS :)

Your post is confusing

You have a 2000 Ranger 3.0l, that I assume has engine problems

You found out you can not put in a 4.0l because you would also need 4.0l transmission(and computer and new engine wiring)

So you got a 1992 3.0l to put into the 2000 Ranger
1991 to 1994 3.0l Ranger used a distributor so needed no crank sensor, which is needed for use 1995 and up distributorless Rangers.
So what you need to do is to change the timing chain cover from the 2000 3.0l to the 1992 engine, and use the crankshaft pulley from the 2000 on the 1992 engine
1995 and up used a different crank shaft than 1994 and earlier, but I think that was just counter balance changes, not the crank nose

May need to change accessories as well to get pulleys to line up
And you also had to change/swap upper and lower intakes

Yes, he has to use the 2000 engine wiring, and he will swap 2000 3.0l's intake(lower and upper with injectors) over to the 1992 engine, that way the fuel line and wiring will matchup.

1986 to 2008 3.0l block and heads were basically the same, read here: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/3_0-build.shtml
