The ladies need some way to warm up the basement for their craft work. This large basement with 9' ceilings typically runs about 55 F this time of year.

I'm thinking one of those ventless propane heaters would be good. Can anyone recommend a brand, model, BTU's, that sort of thing?

We have natural gas in the basement as well but I don't know if those heaters can be moved around as needed.

homedepot has one and two head versions of this. Helps keep me from freezing to death in my garage, so I like that part of it. Even used it to heat my house for a while, and I know a couple of guys that use them for job site heaters. Can’t remember the brand.

I’ve seen three head versions two at northerntool.

I have the three head version of that. Be aware that there is a smell associated with them and there may be carbon monoxide concerns as well that you don't have with ventless heaters! But it works damn good, it'll heat my 1200sq/ft shop nicely.

Single head works on a 20lb propane tank really well, three head will freeze up a 20lb tank in cold weather. I run mine off a 50lb tank now and it's much better.

Have you thought about putting up some curtains to wall off part of the basement? Maybe even an electric heater would be sufficient then. We have an Eden pure space heater in the kids room, crank that thing up and it'll get HOT in there.

Double head guy will freeze up a 20lbs too if you turn it all the way up and run it for a while. I have mine on a 40lb bottle.

I figured it would. I've never had a two head, my single head was barely adequate for an uninsulated garden shed at my old house so I figured I'd go full send with a bigger building. Insulation in my new shop helps a LOT.

Mine is completely uninsulated, and two floors. Definitely not sitting around in my underwear.

Gross. I don't miss those days. At some point I am going to have a gas line run to the building and hook up a 100k BTU hanging heater that I have... I want to be sweating in February.

Just found out that propane heaters are an absolute no no for basements. Turns out the propane is heavier than air and, if leaking, will accumulate in a basement!

Now to look for vented natural gas heaters.

My credo
If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
I have a propane furnace and water heater in my basement and the line for the stove runs along the floor joists. No problems in 32 years. I have a direct vent propane heater in my garage hooked up to a remote switch so I can fire up the heater when I pour my second cup of coffee. I'm not the least bit afraid of propane but I wouldn't get a ventless heater, direct vent is easy to install and doesn't stink or fill the house with carbon monoxide.
