I have to get a new bank account soon because I had owed TD bank money for that whole crap that they screwed up and screwed everyone else... I was going to pay but because it was not fast enough for them .. They closed my account and now i have to find a new bank... I am just seeing what bank i should go with and what people opinions about the bank they are using!!! I am trying to use a nation wide bank because i travel and if i have a problem i can just find the bank closest to where i am at and find out what happened....

Thanks
Jay

No Bank!

Try to find a Savings and Loan, a state "thrift". You will have to do some research.

Basically you are looking for a bank where the "investors" are the "depositors", you typically get voting rights to vote in a director of the board if there is a race for the position.

Again you will have to call them, and ask questions, look for Savings and loan associations as well. You are looking for a true mutual organization

Don't fall for the "community bank" scam, if you have NO voting powers, or "representation" it's just a plain old bank with a "feel good" image.

Bankrate.com is a good place to start.

try a credit union.
That's what I was gonna say. I've been using credit unions for the last 10 years, never had a single issue.

x3 on the credit union.

eventually you will want to straighten out the mess with TD, as it will come back and bite you on the ass when you try to get a loan in the future. but having a credit union to handle your banking will give you time to straighten it out while you can write checks to pay bills etc..

And for the love of God run screaming like a scared little girl from Bank of America!!!!

that is one of the most screwed up evil institution in america.

I have heard horror stories all over the news of how they operate, and if you are having financial difficulties they will rape you without any lube, and a sandpaper lined condom.

I personally would stay far away from wachovia and chase as well. take a look at the banks and if they took any bailout money, you want no part of them.

5/3 would be an option if you just have to do the bank thing.. but I would say credit union. if you are traveling, most credit unions will allow you to use any atm w/ out charging you for it, and some will even eat the fees charged by the atm itself.

Just my thoughts on it.

I've had the pleasure of dealing with a local bank (Bow Mills Bank & Trust, and as they have expanded, Merimack County Savings) for the better park of 15 years, since my first passbook account.

They've got several locations, but are still locally-centered. I know the tellers at at least three branches on a first-name basis.

Go to a local bank if there's a choice. Besides, the chances are the local bank won't need a bailout anytime soon.

yeah, most credit unions are part of the Credit Union Alliance, which lets you use any ATM with the CU$ symbol on it charge free.

If you owe TD money, you had better pay them or get a different account real soon. They will more than likely send you to the CHEX system (which is a mini "credit" report) used by the banks and if you are on it, they will not open an account for you.

Many credit unions use the CHEX system as well.

Wachovia is now owned by Wells Fargo. That is one shitty bank.

I've been happy with our credit union, so I'd suggest one.

I use Branch Banking & Trust (BB&T). One of the friendliest banking institutions I have ever been in. I think it covers only the southeast though...

Depending on how far you travel, the BB&T and 5/3 are pretty common around the N.C. KY IN OH areas... I see ALOT more 5/3 Bank offices than I do BB&T...
