2.3L ('83-'97) Where do I get a new/etc PCM??

Based on threads posted here, it looks like I need a new/rebuilt/etc PCM for a 1996 2.3L Ranger (manual transmission). Where do I find one???

Autozone sells them. You will have to turn in your old one if you want to save about $80.

Autozone seems confused....the website does not list a PCM and when I asked in live chat they send me to an Engine Control Module link...which lets me order without a vin number. The local store claims that this is not the same thing because you "have to have the vin and the mileage to order". Yet it looks the same?

They are commonly known as a ECM, not a PCM though different descriptions are thrown around. True the website does not even ask if it's a manual or automatic and what engine. But it sounds like the store can help you decide correct "ECM" if you bring the VIN.
