Well I'm up in Fairbanks going to college now and well... the power steering decided to crap out or its just locked up a bit cause of the cold i'm not really sure.

I drove around today earlier around 2 pm for about 30 minutes and it was fine, warmed my truck up for about 30 minutes before i drove it and all. then a few hours later i warmed it up for about 20 minutes to go to the hockey game and it was just fine up until i made the turn out of the parking lot and it just started whining!

It was still pretty cold and i was in 4x4 when it did it and now it won't stop. Now when i say cold I mean like -55 as in you would have limbs removed in minutes if you ran outside without full on protective gear. not sure how the fluid would act but it seemed to get better then worse so maybe some air went in the fluid and isn't coming out? I don't know. Anybody shed some light on this? It never made a noise ever up until today.

Sounds like maybe a full synthetic fluid might work better at those temperatures?

Yeah I'll probably have to change it out this summer, and swap over all my fluids and get a winter front and all sorts of stuff for next semester...
