Running restoration 1994!
I finally found a suitable for me, super cab 5 speed 4 wheel drive that happens some niceties: electric windows, electric locks, mirrors, ac.

Plan: make it a dependable tripmaker for outdoor excursions to the Adirondacks, Poconos, mid and western Pennsylvania lakes rivers streams.... Just a side note on this plan, it's been escaping me for almost 20 years. Getting older starting to have problems with my health, dwindling funds, and fixed income. Through all this, there is a small voice whispering to me give it all up and become a senior that doesn't drive anymore, but I don't want to go quietly in the night!

Added some pics of the transmission swap out. No shame wire tie speedometer cable retainer LOL because the clip was missing.

Day one...
Tailgate party! ( Err. Tailgate repair)

Tailgate Hardware that holds the cables was upside down? The bolts that the cables hang from on were on the top??? WTH??
The rubber cup is missing from bottom right lift out hinge, if you can call it a hinge. Will have to locate one of those.

Rummaged around, found some bolts and washers put the hardware back the way it's supposed to be.

I now have an tilt up-and-down lift off tailgate!

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Yay!

Dorman makes the hinge cups. I think I bought mine at a local parts store like Advanced or o'rielly's. Look in the "Help" section.

Don't ever give up! Go kicking and screaming into that dark night! Keep moving forward and never let your butt settle in to the couch for to long. Nice looking truck.

Thank you for the encouragement!:

I'm going to try and keep some of my questions and discussions here instead of all over the Forum.

Smelled gas, found a bad rubber elbow on the canister, and a vacuum leak because part of the air intake system is missing the hose and vacuum operated damper I think it is, down low on the right side of the radiator I think it's a cold air intake.

I charged the AC system with dry nitrogen 2 days ago it all leaked out, glad I didn't waste refrigerant. Now where is the electronic leak detector??
Visual inspection shows me no oil traces on any of the connections or hoses, but I haven't really spent much time on it I'm only good for a couple hours a day on this kind of stuff

That sounds like the stuff that's supposed to take heated air from around the exhaust manifold to help the engine warm up faster. I removed all that from my engine. But I live down south.

. Yes, it was removed also, and looking closer I did see it comes off the manifold so it heats the air going in. I guess it made sense to some engineer somewhere back in time.

Ok didn't do a whole lot today it rained and it was overcast and cold again.

I did get outside for about half an hour and I played with the wires on the master cylinder today, the parking brake light brake happens to also be the low on brake fluid light! Duh!

It has always been my philosophy that if you solve each problem as it crops up, in a fairly short amount of time you won't have any problems left. I learned this during my 30 years of doing school maintenance and pertains to any type of maintenance.

It's different when you're retired, the urgency seems to be gone and it gets replaced with laziness LOL or. "eh, maybe tomorrow", (then 3 months go by)

I hear that! It is becoming harder to get off the couch and really difficult getting up from the garage floor. I have begun setting a step stool close that I can crawl to and pull myself up. Sad state of affairs, my mind is willing but my body is not. Frustrating more than anything.

Well once again my plan i in coming into view,

I now have a nearly new m5od transmission in the truck, hopefully within a year or so have the nearly new engine that came with it put in the truck.

all that's rest is the running gear Wheels bearings shafts Etc.

if necessary I'll get another transfer case but don't think I'll have to.

THEN! then maybe I can take some real trips to do what really love to do! which is expressed well in the next few pictures.
