Not stepping on AlanD's toes, but his article lacks pics that some may find useful.

This is assuming that the trans is out of the vehicle.

So...here's my stab at it!

1) Remove the rear housing from the trans

2) Remove the top cover from the trans

3) Slide both shift collars either forward or backward.

4) Remove the 55mm Nut. You will need either a large pipe wrench, a hammer and chisel, or the special tool that was made to do this (pic avaliable upon request). This nut is staked, so its gonna take some effort to get it loose.

5) Remove the smaller 30mm nut. Again, its staked

6) Remove the small bearing and washer.

7) Now move the shift collars back to the neutral position.

8) Place a pry bar between the rear bearing and gear. Firmly but gently hit the end of the output shaft while prying between the 2. Rotate the out put shaft 1/4 to 1/3 of the way around, and repeat untill the bearing comes off.

9)Remove the large gear behind it, and then the 17mm bolt that holds the reverse assembly in. Remove the reverse assembly.

10) Paying close attention, remove the gears and bearings in order till you get down to the reverse syncro.

12) To remove it, 1st remove the bolt that holds the shift finger on...

.....then the small snap ring that holds the finger to the shaft....

(Yeah yeah, I couldnt get a good pic)
....Then remove the bolt that holds the syncro shift fork rail

13) continue removing the parts in order till you get down to the rear bearing retainer. Its held in by 6 bolts.

14) Remove the oil trough bolt and then the oil trough

15) Remove the front bearing retainer

16) Now gently rock the main and counter shafts back and forth to release the bearings, and you can remove the shafts!

Feel free to ask questions, or request pics.

Also, feel free to pass this info on, just plz give credit where its due!

So can we add this to AlanD's write up?

It's in the Tech info section.

In PIC #8 prying and rotating...

If you use two identical prybars and pry evenly while the transmission is vertical
often the bearing will slip right off

The other thing is if you are using the pry and hammer method it is best
to use a brass or lead hammer to avoid chipping the shaft.

ALSO: remember that the purpose of the prybar is to load the part in the
proper direction, if you actually try to pry HARD you will probably chip
pieces off of the reverse gear you are using

My "Article" as such wasn't intended as an article... it was a quick write up
on how to disassemble the hard parts of the transmission so you could get
inside and find out what was wrong with it.

Because with a manual tranmission what's wrong is usually about as subtle
as bullet hole
