I came across a great deal on a set of Infinity primus 6x9's and went for it, hoping I could make them fit. Turns out they fit easily. A couple of minutes with a permanent marker to trace the outline and about ten minutes with a jigsaw was all it took.

Having an accurate 6*9 template to cut from would have made the job easier (and the cutout a bit cleaner). I got it approximately right on the first try and trimmed more here and there to finish the job.

Remembering to plug in the first speaker before putting the panel back on would have helped a bit as well. Still, $40 and maybe two hours of total investment was all worth it.

Now to grab a set of 6.5" components for the front doors. Probably a project for next month. After that, an amp and I'll finally put in the sub (once I find an appropriate box).

i cant even remember the last time i had a proper functioning sound system in my truck...:icon_confused:

right now i am waffling on the next rewire front to rear.... there is very little sheetmetal in the gunwhales where the jump seats go and it all needs cut out and re-done.... so when that starts i need to think about a decent system.

i was not going to do a doubler...and just run the 208 t case...but this one is wounded already so doubler and 205 i think will have to happen....no way i can justify an atlas 4 speed.

that means floor modifications and no room for bottom subs. and i need water resistant or waterproof gear too.

with the doors off and back window out or open you need a real system to hear anything...

The good news is that amps have gotten immensely smaller and cheaper now than they used to be. My wife's Acura has a tiny amp mounted under the passenger seat that puts out 60*4 to the main speakers and 350 to the ten inch sub in the back. Very adequate and you can pick one up on Amazon all day long for $140. Seems to run pretty cool and it's worked flawlessly for two years. That's what I'll use in the Ranger as well. I don't think you'd have any trouble finding a spot to keep it dry given how small it is. Something like 4.5*10*1.5 as I recall.

Marine audio?

Some of the old tractors with loud cabs just had a headphone jack you plugged your noise canceling headphones into...
