Aftermarket exhaust (or muffler) that isn't too loud

I'm in the process of doing the typical stuff we all do; fabbing a cold air intake, exhaust, etc on my 94 B4000.

It only has 89k on it, so it still has the factory exhaust which I think is 1-7/8". It is so quiet and so small. I realize I only have 160hp so I don't need a monster exhaust, but I'm sure I can improve the flow. One thing I want to avoid is the loud part. V6s with a loud exhaust are something I really don't like (unless its a 350 or 370Z... those sound killer).

What system flows well but isn't loud? Can be a full system, or just a muffler recommendation on which I can build the rest of the system.

Why fab something that already exists in factory form?

As for mufflers I actually have two 27" glass packs stacked end to end, and I don't think it sounds too bad.

Mostly because I have a buddy with a tubing bender and I'm a cheapskate :)

In my experience on two or three different Rangers, Magnaflow mufflers add a tiny bit of sound, a nice tone, but aren't overly loud at all. I buy stainless Magnaflows for all of my vehicles because of this.

With factory cats in place, the Magnaflows I've purchased barely make any change at all in sound output.
