My credo
it is what it is
ive got a lot of rust in my cooling system. im pretty positive its coming from the heater core because the guy who had it before me had the intake and return lines to the heater core jumped. for some reason i didnt flush the heater core when reconnecting the lines :(.....so im wondering if CLR being run through it will help to alleviate most of the problem before i flush it? also, what is the best method of flushing the entire system?

heater core may be holding some rust but they don't rust themselves so flushing would possibly help but rust is most likely coming from block. i would flush the whole thing and fill with fresh antifreeze (not the 50/50 stuff either). also look for a post by me about using a magnet in resivor to trap rust..

it is all a slow process so i would plan on doing it afew times to get it all clean

The magnet is a really good idea. I wonder why somebody hasn't made a radiator cap with a magnet on the end?

Because they stuff you would catch doesn't go up that high.

A magnet on the lower rad hose would be a better trap. Just have to remember to empty it periodically.
