Was wondering: If you install colored LEDs in place of the incandesent bulbs will the LED's color show up clearly or will the "green" film on the back of the guage panel corrupt the effect? I've seen tech articles on removing the film and putting a different color on but being Chief Rain Cloud I know I'd screw that up. Looking for the easiest way to get rid of the stock look.

Thanks for any replies! :dunno:

Yes the new bulbs color will show through. I have a 93 Ranger and i put blue led bulbs in the cluster without removing the green film and they show right through it. I can take a picture for you tomorrow if you would like.

Thanks
Rusty

When you said that you scraped off the green film. Do you mean you took like a knife or a razor blade and just scraped it off or... ?? I installed my blue led's in my cluster and left the green film and they shine through alright but they could be more blue like they should be. I just don't want to ruin my cluster when i do this.

Thanks Rusty.

P.S. sorry to hijack your thread I just though it would be better suited here then making a whole new thread.

Is it very hard to replace the incandesent bulbs with LED lights? Where can you buy these LED lights at?

sorry guys i forgot about this thread lol. I will get a picture for you tonight. No its not hard at all. Once you pull the gauge cluster pull out the old bulbs and put the new led ones right in there place.

I got mine on ebay. You can also get them from superbrightleds.com ect...

mine are blue. I bought these ones http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/10pcs-161-168-194-Inverted-LED-Spark-Blue-Wedge-Bulbs_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem370116038156QQitemZ370116038156QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Those are sick, I think I'll try to put some in. My new Pioneer system has a blue glow to it, anyways.

its not hard to do at all. Just pull out your cluster take out the bulbs from the sockets and then put the new bulbs in the old sockets and then install in the cluster. Very simple and changes the whole interior of the truck.

Red would also look good but I don't know how that would shine through a green film on the back of the cluster:icon_confused:

Try it and let us know. lol

I just put blue LED's in my dash a couple of weeks ago. I have a gen1 ranger but i was thinking of doing a write up on it. I ordered my LED's from http://www.superbrightleds.com/led_prods.htm
I ordered 2 different types of LED's for my dash because i didn't know how bright thy would be, on the back of my gen1 gages i only have 3 main lights so i had to order some brighter LED's.
I ordered these first in a gen3 these will work fine, I actually used these for my blinkers which are now red.

But on a gen1 or 2 i would recommend these.

Ill post some more pics in a day or two. :icon_thumby:
