87 Ranger XLT.

When i bought the truck the original radio wouldnt even turn on, so i went to the boneyard and sourced another original radio from an 88 Ranger....its this style im sure yall are familier with....

Anyways, plugged it in and it works fine except the LCD backlight is out. I removed it, replaced the bulb, and still nothing. The LCD board itself seems to be working as i can see the numbers if i shine a light on it.

Do these lights recieve power from within the radio (as in, the radio is junk), or do they have a special wire on the radio harness that just runs that light (as in, problem is in the truck harness, not radio.)

Id like to be able to see my clock so i know how late im running for work.

Thanks in advance.

The power to light the screen and display the numbers comes internally.

The only power wires going into the radio are key switched to turn it on and off, keep-alive to keep the memory, and a leg of the dash illumination circuit to dim it when the headlights are on.

Alright. Guess when the rain stops ill go boneyard huntin again.

One other quick thing. The 88 Radio had an extended wireing harness on it that the 87 radio didnt have. Made it much eaiser to plug in. The 88 radio i think may of been a preimum sound radio as its lacking the "L/D" button. Did all the 88+ radios have the longer harness or just. (what im assuming) premium sound ones?

It's not a standard thing. The original radios in both of my 88s were the same as the ones in both of my 87s. Just plugged right into the radio.
