Anyone know of a way to test and see if the modules are actually good?

According to the tests I have power to all the right places and the right voltages/resistances. New speed sensor, steering wheel switches are spot on, servo works and I have nothing going down the road. Factory shop manual says to check with known good module. If I had a known good module I would be good.

I have tried 3 modules so far, don't know if it is something I am overlooking or the modules.

Hmm... So you've gone the whole way through the FSM and/or the Mitchell guide? I remember the process of testing on my '94 Explorer and it directed me clearly to the cruise amp after a few checks. Would be happy to see if I've still got the manual if it's any different to what you're looking at.

I have nothing to help you, but I found this bit funny because I read that exact same thing in my '92 factory service manual just yesterday and thought it was rather silly. I am going to try adding factory cruise to my ranger as well and was reading the manual to see what all is involved.

Is the light on the dash coming on when you turn the cruise on?

My only guesses would be that either the module is bad, which seems unlikely if you've tried 3, or the module isn't getting the speed signal. It sounds like the other pieces work so... :dunno:

I have used both the FSM and the EVTM, basically say the same things. They call it amplifier, I called it a module. If you have the Mitchel for a first gen you might check if it has any testing procedures for the module. The 85 and 88 FSM/EVTM were the same.

No dash light to come on this old, I don't think yours has one either. Mom's old '94 Explorer didn't have one.

My system is out of an '88, I did have to splice the connector in for the speed sensor. The later EFI rigs have it somewhat tied into the engine harness but my resistance is still within range.

My brother is a Sr Master tech, he said they still do the same "substitute with a known good unit" rather than give any way to test it. I suppose it works good when you can get new stuff off the shelf.

Ah well today I learned.

In my defense, I don't think I have ever had a working cruise control system on any of my rbv's.

I guess I could try adding a light. :icon_welder:
