What is the best thing for gluing a knob back on the splined lever?

Does it really need to be glued? The one on the 4406 fits very tight with no adhesive. I wasn't planning to secure it at all.

Does it really need to be glued? The one on the 4406 fits very tight with no adhesive. I wasn't planning to secure it at all.
It is actually for the 4406 in my F-150, it keeps coming off as I engage the 4wd and it is irritating.

My Ranger's knobs are threaded. :icon_twisted:

If it is manual 4x4 I've had good luck with RTV. If the shifter is stiff check the plastic sleeve on the pivot bolt. My FIL has a truck about that year and it bushing was gone, and the whole thing rusted together.

If it is e-shift I'd use modeling glue. I'd also pop the center trim off the dash and look at the screw bosses. The one's in my Expedition are destroyed and I have determined the knob doesn't fall off the switch, the switch falls out of the bezel.

My 2WD shift knob used to come off in my hand during 1-2 and 3-4 shifts. I finally put a couple drops of superglue in there. I have not been able to take it off for the last 20+ years.

It shifts fine, the lever is just more down there so it is easy to inadvertently pull up on it slightly as I pull it back.

I used rtv on my stock Ranger knob just to keep the knob straight, it had no inclination of coming off as it was operated even though it was only held on by gravity.

The knob on my B2 for the trans would fall off just changing gears. I put a little TA-29 grey on it about 6 years ago and I still can't get it back off.

Something that loosens up with heat would definitely be helpful if you ever need to remove it.

In high school, my GF's Brother drove an 89 EC 4x4. The little round gear display on the shifter would spin. At hwy speeds you could watch the thing go round and round and it made the most irritating noise. He couldn't get the shift nob off so he eventually just replaced the whole stick and all.
