I can't really answer your question about lifters, too many variables. But as far as the bolts, they would have to be seriously damaged by rust before I wouldn't use them again. TTY head bolts and exhaust bolts I would use new, but not others.

My question would be, "Why are you rebuilding a 3.0 with only 94K on it that is quiet and runs good???" It will do another 100K plus easy!! Depending on how much you drive that could be 7 to 10 years. How long you going to have it.

And the 3.0 with the tick that goes away above idle just means you probably have a lifter that leaks a little so it takes a little more oil pressures to pump it back up. That engine would probably last a very long time that way. If you are going to part or junk your dad's truck, I would pull the engine and keep it until you really need it. Heck, who knows, you may fall head over for something else before that tick causes any real problem.

Never had a problem with any Fel-pro gaskets, been using them for years.

And really in most cases it is "just a gasket", outside of a head gasket, it is a pretty simple device/part, but can be installed incorrectly.

Not saying all the complaints are just poor installations but I have never had any issues with Fel-pro head gaskets or any of their other gaskets myself, can't speak for others though
