Need quick help

My 1988 Ranger 2.9l I started it up to warm it up it was running fine on its own for 20 minuts than it just died or stalled. I went to start it back up it just turns over wont start back up. I checked the fuel pressure at the rail tuned the key on pushed the nipple deal fuel sprayed out turned key off did it again fuel spayed out. I did change the computer a year and a half ago to a rebuilt one. The dist ignition sensor is a Motorcraft only 2 years old. When I crank the engine over the check engine light comes on. I never had this issue before I did notice a few times as its running it acts like its going to stall but comes back in RPM's quick

I took the cover off the computer the board looks ugly lots of pealing of clear sealer looking stuff. I seen nothing burnt or anything leaking. Its snowing here need to find the issue quick. Any help is very much appreciated

Start simple, spray starting fluid in the throttle body and see if it attempts to start. If so you can norrow it down to a fuel delivery issue. If not its a spark issue.

The cruddy computer sounds suspicious either way....

Thank you Dirtman

I will give that a try in the morning the computer one year warrenty ran out just four months ago. Its a Corman $102.99 at OReilly its the only place to get one. The board was dark looking peeling clear plastic coating stuff one of the round risitor looking things was rusty on one side at the back of the computer. The screws where so tight had a hell of a time getting it apart

Doesn't sound good but you really should pull the codes before you pull the board

21 - engine coolant temp
24 - air charge temp

Well you are not getting spark for some reason. Absolutely could be the computer given your description of its condition. Ect sensor and air temp sensor should not cause a no spark condition.

When you say that you changed the "dist ignition sensor", are you talking about the pickup coil inside the distributor, or the ignition module on the outside of the distributor? If either one was bad you wouldn't get any spark.

Hopefully it's not the pickup coil, which would require removing and dismantling the distributor (or swapping it out with another distributor).
