Hey guys I need some help I'm looking to buy yet another Ranger, this will be my 4th. This time I want a 4x4 but I'm looking for the axle R7 4L10 or R8 4L56 but where do I find them? I have a feeling they are under a automatic which I do not want. In the stx? Help.

I had a 87 STX hirider that came with 2.9/auto/4.L10. I believe the I4 were common with 4.10 and probably some sport packages. The 4.56 is a unicorn.

Like Richard said, the r8 probably isn't really out there, I don't think anybody has ever actually seen one. In the older rangers, the 4.10's were in auto trucks or 4cyl trucks. Ranger fx4's had em though, at least the level 2's did. My dad daily drives an 03 with a 4.0, 5 speed with 4.10's and a torsen diff.

I also have an 87 stx that came from the factory with a 2.9, auto and 4.10's

4cyl trucks will generally only be a code 87 (for 4.10s) 7.5 open diff, not an R7 4.10 8.8 LSD...

I've yet to see the R8. I would be happy with the R7 4L 10 but with a v6. I guess I'm being too picky or I need to at explorer axles.

I looked under about a dozen Explorers in the yard one time and found nothing but 3.73 and 4.10 with an even mix of open and Trac-Lok.
