Hey guys, my 95 ranger.
It was a 4.0, it was a 4.2, now its a 5.0. Long story, cover that later. As of now, I see everything on swapping couple wires over for 98+ to make the tach happy for the 5.0...what about the 95-97s? I have the pin out for the 95 cluster my explorer cluster I had sitting here is from a unknown year I would rather just utilize my original cluster if I can.
Anybody?

Thanks,
Curtis

Yeah I joined last month, pinout between the 95 and 2000 were the same, I swapped the speedo stuff into 2000 and put it in. CEL didn't come on, had fuel leak so stopped to fix that.
88400 and the v band clamps didn't work out, long tubes on their way. Eec does communicate. Getting closer...

Hopefully, free time has been miniscule here lately. Apparently I get to keep the plant running, build projects and repair racks for all of our north American plants. I'm hoping this thing is running next week, need to have time to drive it and let it prove itself

I should have thought back and done more research on the duff long tubes. This project is pushing my F this to its limit. Off to work another 12hrs:icon_confused::beer:

Progress... 88400s back in, cut original Y for the 4.2 passenger modified to mate up to 302,
o2 bung located for header.
EGR tube kind of figured out.
Nothing like 316L rod for tacking feels awesome when it pops and ends up down the shirt... :icon_surprised:
Drivers side has to move back 1-2" to mate up with the header.
I wrapped everything for the 4.2 with exhaust wrap after seeing under it I am going to make some heat shields and leave it.
Passenger side and header going with my friend to get TIG at work tomorrow :icon_thumby:.
I really need to get 220 ran into my garage... Nap before work.

Duff long tubes I would have really liked to use them but frame, trans, cab, the passenger likes to hit everything

Well fired up, no tach signal with the 2000 cluster or the 95, I know the 95 worked.
Wiring is in its correct orientation, ground has ground, signal goes back to pin 48, key up no tach, there anything else to this I don't see in the diagram?

Thanks
Curtis

Tachometer:

Here’s how you modify your Ranger tachometer for V-8 use:

1) Get your dash apart and disconnect the cluster
2) If you have a EVTM turn to the Instrument cluster section
3) Locate Pin 8 on wire connector C216 (Black/Yellow Wire)
4) Use a very small flathead screwdriver to release the pin from the connector housing
5) Find Connector C214 (largest of the 3 for cluster)
6) Install the wire removed from C216 in to slot 16 on C214. This slot is currently vacant.
7) Put everything back together and fire it up. You’re all done.

https://www.therangerstation.com/how-to/engines-fuel-systems/swapping-an-explorer-5-0l-in-to-a-1998-2011-ranger/

from that page.

dont swap the wires if 16 has a wire...pull it and tape it off or stub it.

make sure you didnt burn power to the tach. i would have to look at it, i assume the explorer setup has the data deal..i can see that fawkin your day up if you swap them instead of replacing one with the other.

My 95 to 2000 pin out. Connector tach signal and ground are where they are supposed to be. DVOM have continuity to EEC, ground. The 4.0 ground in the 2000 cluster is the CEL in the 95 so that put 12 v to that circuit when I used the 2000 cluster with my speedo. Oddly with 95 cluster tach jumped one time only.
Pin for 4.0 ground in pigtails has blk/yel, I assume is left unhooked in the harness to save money when it's built. Only other difference is 10 pin harness(95) #2red/yel fuse side of the CEL is in the 2000 is early(97)CEL. Looks like I get to go buy the junkyard.

Explorer harness didn't have data deal either. Just eec to bulk plug.
It was a 2006 f150 4.2 v6 4r70w set up. Ate cam sync and cam gear, limp mode in a construction zone on the highway oil pressure dropped, nowhere to go but keep going until can get over.
End result 4.2 reman was more expensive than buying low miles explorer engine go through it, upgrade it.

Drove it around, fueled up. #1 has a noisy rocker(I think I didn't tq down the roller when I was priming up had debris on it).
Yoke at tcase slapping bottom of cab with big bumps and heavy loads....I seem to remember body lift conversation...I'm going to get a urethane trans mount for it.
Grabbed another cluster, speedo is perfect lol, still no tach. I have grounds, power, signal to EEC. I'm beginning to wonder if signal inside EEC is junk...
Exhaust leak at rear Vband to cat angle is off going to cut it get it where it needs to be and take it to my buddy to TIG at work.
