hey, i'm from ottawa, canada, how's it going?

We're having a pretty good snow storm today and that's why i've decided to join this forum.
I want to go have fun in the snow but my 06 Ranger is pissing me off a little.

Any Ideas??:

My truck misfires or studders when it snows. Doesn't do this in any other weather conditions, only snow. Doesn't matter if it's raining hard, seems like I could probly drive it under water, but when in snows, the truck will misfire.
The truck seems only to misfire after acceleration when cruising. I've had it looked at by a dealer, but of course it wasn't snowing the day I went so nothing was found. Otherwise truck runs great.

Have any of you guys or ladies had or heard of this problem??

Let me know

Marc

Howdy Marc,

Welcome to TRS...

I think all or most Ford vehicles are sensitive to moisture and road spray (or blown in snow) tends to get on the wires and other connectors and cause shorts that impair engine performance.

You can try spraying the wires and connectors with some water repellant to see if it clears it up...or you may want to test this by spraying water (mist) on the engine in a dark garage and watch for arching...you may need to replace some wires if you do find this, or spraying them on the hot spots might help keep them dry.

I used to have to block the driver's side of the rad with cardboard in winter to keep the road spray off my distributor or the truck would pretty much die out on the highway a few times...not a pleasant experience at night in the dark on a stormy night...the cardboard trick actually helped quite a bit and improved the overall heat in the cab on really cold days...

Just don't block the entire rad...

Anyways, I'm sure others will help if you post this in the appropriate forum...like the 4.0 or 3.0 engine forums...or the 2.3 if you happen to have that engine...

hey, thanks for the respond.

I know that a mist would not work because as I said before, my truck does not misfire even in the biggest rain storm.

The other day I was following a truck that had snow on it's top, there was no snow in the road. Basically the light fluffy snow blowing off the truck would cause my truck to misfire....very weird.
