ground strap location

I am putting an explorer 4.0 OHV in my 99 ranger. There is a ground strap at the rear of the driver's side head. I cannot remember where that strap was attached to the frame. Would it be the same screw that the engine harness uses as a ground, right next to the PCM/ECM?

On my 93 4.0 it goes straight up from the drivers side head to a stud protruding from the firewall...inboard from the brake booster assembly.

Ground is ground. Find a bolt that goes into the body and put it there.

Thanks. Will find a nice clean bolt. I found a picture of the explorer and it was bolted to the firewall just center of the windshield washer. Was somewhere else on the ranger. No evidence of a ground wire on the firewall in my old photos.

You can never have too many grounds. A good upgrade is a heavy guage wore from the alternator body directly to battery neg. especially in colder climates or you add a bunch of accys.

When I rebuilt my truck my batter cables were shot, and I was switching to a 65-series battery, which only fits right with the terminals closer to the core support. I happened to have a box of new cables that I picked up on clearance for five cents a piece, so I went and just found what I needed in there. I found one that was just right to run from the negative to my alternator, and held it down with one of the alternator bolts.

Yes that location would be fine, as said any good clean ground on firewall is correct
This is the MAIN ground for ALL the cab electrics, so make sure it is clean and tight at both ends

The Frame and all body parts are painted and THEN assembled at the factory, and the bolts usually have rubber bushings or nylon.
So a "metal" part on a vehicle is not automatically a good ground, it has to be made into a good ground
