So to start out with I am planning to do a junkyard 351 swap into a 4x4 manual ranger. Just to ease myself into this I am going to just take a bone stock 351 out of and f150 or an ecoline or whatever I find and throw that in there, but later I plan on building it out and turboing it. My question is this: what transmission should I go with, and what make/model/year vehicle has said transmission in it? I was looking at the T5 but I saw someone say that anything over stock hp/ftlb will shred that to pieces. Also, what about the transfer case? I've never really worked transmissions before, and especially not a 4x4 one. I was reading that you can get adapters to fit the T5 I think to the stock transfer case. I also have an 02 automatic 4x4 explorer sitting in my driveway with a shot transmission in it, and was wondering if that would have the correct rear axle (the 8.8).

An '02 Explorer should have the independent rear 8.8, which is (almost certainly) not what you want.

Damn, that's what I thought. It's the generation before this one right? The "exploder?"

Is the 02 a 2 door or 4 door?

4 door. And if I can't use the axle out if it, is there anything I could use out of it? Radiator? T/C? Suspension stuff?

No, only 2/4 door. The 2 door explorers in 02 had a solid rear axle, just like the sport trac versions. Standard full body 4 doors had independent rears that bite the big one.
