HI everyone I am a new member to the forum but Ive been reading your threads for 3 years now. It's been very helpful for me to see what everyone is talking about and how to fix them.

Ive run into a problem with my 2002 Ford ranger xlt extended cab 2wd with 4.0 engine and a automatic transmission.

I want to swap a 95 to current year ford explorer 8.8 disc brake rear end into my truck.
I know that the explorer has a 3.73 gear ratio and i am running a 3.55 gear ratio.
I just want to ask all what i have to do to take the ford explorer rear end drop it out and just re- weld the shock mounts. Then put it in my truck. I just wanted to ask everyone if they had problems with this swap-thanks Anthony:icon_welder:

Your going to have to relocate the spring perch from the bottom to the top of the rearend for the leafs unless you want to drop your ass 4" and you might have to do the same for the shock mounts as well, and your going to need the master cylinder from the explorer as well cuz the one on you ranger won't provide sufficient power for the discs as its set up for drums

Yes. Then you will need to figure out the parking brake situation........

The stock 2002 Ranger master cylinder works very well with rear discs. From 2001 on, the F/R proportioning is done by the 4WABS control unit. I've done 3 rear disc conversions on 2001+ Rangers with excellent results.

You'll need to have the the speedometer calibration in the PCM adjusted for the axle ratio change. This can be done using a dealer tool or with a flash tuner like an Xcalibrator from SCT.
