Dana 35 grinding in 4x

Hey all! Wondering if bad spindle bearing would possibly be the cause of the horrible grinding when I am in 4wd?

The best way to check is to jack the wheel up and see if it has play in it from the hub bearings. If so, replace them and see. If that doesnt fix it you could potentially have some differential damage? Not likely but it has to be coming from somewhere.

By hub bearings you are refering to the wheel bearings correct?

I think that is what he is referring to.

I would start tracking the noise down by pulling things apart and inspecting as you go. Hubs and wheel bearings first. Can't say I've ever heard a spindle bearing produce a horrible grind noise.

The axle needle bearing at the rear of the spindle can causes noises only heard while in 4x4 (and is a bearing that is often neglected during servicing). Assuming the front differential oil has already been checked and verified good, this is where I'd suggest looking.

Noise from a wheel bearing would be evident regardless of whether it's in 4x4 or not.
