ok, here goes.

question 1 i had a friends trailer on the back of my 88 today to move it as his f150 is in for warantee work and while backing the trailer the transmission had a shudder put the truck in low range and it was fine . do i need to ajust the reverse band and if so how do i do it?

question 2 the computer says the 3/4 shift solonoid is bad if i drop the valve body will the check balls fall right out or are they held in by a gasket?

The bands adjust to 10 ft lbs at the 2 sided adjuster they get adjusted like you are taking the adjuster out. And I believe that it is the front band is reverse but could be wrong....I usually do both at the same time. If I remember right you don't have to drop the valve body to get to the shift solenoids. They should be accessible from just dropping the pan. PM me if you want to bring it over for help.

I have an A4LD out of a 91 exploder. 40,000 on the rebuild. No convertor though.
