I have a 1987 ranger with a 2.9l and the a4ld transmission. Im having a lot of transmission issues and want to swap a manual into it. i have trying to research this but everything i find is for a 4wd and not a 2wd and wanted to know if aside from the transfer case and driveshafts is everything the same to do the swap. From what i could find i could only use a M5OD-r1 or the FM132 correct? I found an M5OD-r1 in a junk yard from a 89-92 model year ranger, would that work. it is a 2wd transmission. and what else could i get from that ranger if that transmission is usable?

I'm not an expert, I have never done a swap
You would need;
- the bracket for the clutch pedal, and I don't think they are all the same from year to year.
- clutch master cylinder
- computer for your year engine w/manual trans
- maybe the wiring for the clutch neutral safety switch

I’m more so wondering if the m5od will work. I was reading on some threads that some people had to move the crossmember forward 2.5 inches is that true? And does the computer have to be from the same year or any year with a 2.9 that was manual? and would i need a new driveshaft?
