Are You Going To Preorder Or Purchase A New Ford Ranger?

:agree:

My 20ft trailer is rated at 7500lbs and my 2001 4.0 pulls it just fine fully loaded. I have the brake controller installed along with a tranny cooler and trans temp gauge and I can't complain. Is it ideal? Probably not. Is it really safe? Probably not. BUT, I never run that fast, I never get in a hurry, and I drive like everyone is out to kill me anyway. I got that from being a motorcycle rider since I was a kid and having a lot of different streetbikes.

If I need to haul something any larger/heavier than that, I just shell out the cash and have it trucked where I need it. Sometimes it's worth spending the money to have someone else deal with delivery and the problems that can come with that process.

The real problem is our government setting arbitrary emission and safety standards. They're removing all personal responsibility from the driving experience. The government and all insurance agencies ALL want 100% self driving cars. More profitable for them...

I'll stick to the older Rangers because I love them, but it's really a shame what has been done to the new Ranger. Both by gov regulations and by Ford voluntarily adding features. I love a lot of the features on the new truck, but it's got too many features I will not tolerate having if I'm the one spending $40,000+ The new Ranger has some serious potential with the build specs on it. Good power, solid engine internals, a boxed frame (that's probably full of various holes that will gather salt/dirt and rot out the rails)

I do wonder if this new co-developed 10 speed automatic transmission will eventually become their new A4LD.. :icon_rofl:

So from what I can see, nobody has preordered a 2019 Ranger.

I'll never buy one if they don't offer a real standard cab WITHOUT the auto-start-stop technology.

No hybrid technology.
No auto engine shut down tech.
No built-in navigation or GPS of any kind.
No speed-sensitive radio volume.
No sync technology.
No wifi.
No "link" button to contact Ford or some third party security company.
No electric seats.
No heated or cooled seats.
No electric rear window.
No soft open tailgate.
No back-up camera.
No parking sensors.
No auto-braking tech.
No parallel parking assistance.
No fake skid-plates for appearance purposes.
No plastic "bumpers"
No rain sensing wipers.
No intelligent access or push button start.
No satellite radio.
No keyless entry.
No $750 per month payment.

Just an actual standard cab short bed, 4x4, manual transmission, manual transfer case, vinyl floor, cloth seats, Eco-Boost V6 or turbo-diesel, with no frills. No power windows. No power locks. No power mirrors. No power seatbelts. No sunroof. No "big brother" features reminding me to do anything or chiming in my ear.

In other words, less soccer mom features and more real truck features that guys like me desire. Simplicity and affordability is key for me.

I 100% agree. When I bought my Ranger brand new back in 2008, the only options that I ordered were A/C and the rear seats in the back since it is an extended cab and I have been perfectly happy with it and no regrets. I don't need all that high tech stuff in today's vehicles and at least on planning keeping my Ranger for a while.

A standard cab 4x4 with a manual six speed would get me to buy one. I'm okay with many of the high tech features, but the issue with them is software, and as a software engineer myself, I know how buggy software can be. So, looking down the road 5, 10, 15 years; how much of the software/firmware controlled stuff will still get support and updates? And will it actually be fixable?

Any actual photos that you have in store for us?
I love pick-up trucks since I can put dog cages on the back portion whenever I bring my pets along.

I’ve got to drive one and check out the seat position first. I hate the hybrid truck/car position of the Tacoma.

Currently driving a JK wrangler, considering ranger and Jeep JT. FCA is pulling some disturbing stuff so was leaning towards ranger, but a bit irritated that ford is reporting no raptor version in the states. I’ll probably give it a cpl of years. Also considering ZR2 but chevy makes me very nervous.

To each his own.
I visited the local MM Ford dealership. GM said they haven't ordered any Rangers yet and not sure if they will because he doubts they can sell 1.
Talked to my Cousin who owns a dealership 35 miles from me. He said they have had one for a few weeks and can't sell it and nobody wants to drive it. It's a loaded XLT.
I thought they would sell like hotcakes. I think it's because of all the issues with the 10 speed.

Because its loaded, nobody can afford it. If it was a lower trim it would probably be gone by now. Or their "waiting for the Raptor" lol

One of the members on ranger5g already has his in the shop for the trans....the techs are waiting to get "permission" from Ford to dive into it. See it here: https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/first-ranger-in-the-shop.1609/
This just seems like a side effect of mass production. Not really a re-occurring problem across the board. I worked on an assembly line, making industrial washing machines, and there is QC, but not every part of every machine got tested. Random parts of random products get tested. This easily could have slipped through.

Sounds like it isn't really the trans. Something else has to fail for the trans to get engine coolant into it. Usually the fluids go the other way when a cooler fails.

Should be an easy fix if they have a problem with the radiator/trans cooler.

The dealer my BIL works at got one in last week, it is one of the biggest if not the biggest dealers in Nebraska and they have 1. The little dealer my brother works at has one on order but it isn't in yet.
