Usually anything after 1997 is obd2. That's when it became industry standard some cars were before that

1994 IIRC, they will have an OBDII port under the passenger side of the dash near the trans tunnel as well as the old style OBDI hookups under the hood.

OBD2 was federally mandated for the 1996 model year. ALL 1996 vehicles have OBD2. Some had it before that.

False. My buddy's 97 F250 is still OBD1. I went round and round with him telling him otherwise until I looked at it myself.

Its a Heavy Duty package old body style with a 351W, only has 1 o2 sensor, and diagnostic plugs under the hood.

There's always exceptions to the rule and his is it. But yea anything 96 and newer will be a 99.9999999% likelihood of being OBD2.

Thats because his GVW is over 8500 lbs ('96-97). Then in '98 the feds bumped the limit to 14K GVW.

1996 OBDII was mandated for all passenger cars and light duty pickups. Anything with a GVRW over 8500 lbs was not required until 1998. Some vehicles were hybridized, and there is some cross over.
