My GF and I drove 600 miles yesterday to lake tahoe without a problem. Today when trying to start the truck it would crank over and rev for a second or two and then it died. It does that over and over. Last year some fuel system components were replaced to fix a similiar problem although I don't think that is the same problem.

What I know:
1.96 T100 3.4L V6, no distributor cap/rotor (distributorless ignition maybe?)
2.There is a strong smell of fuel in the exhaust
3.This piece is cracked: (looks like an ignition piece directly mounted to the sparkplug)

Questions: Will this piece work with that big of a crack? What is it called so I can replace it?

Thank you for the help
Jeremy

that would be ur coil pack, and it may not function like that, it appears to be a recent crack aswell, maybe age/stress finally caught up to it. but it should still run(however like crap) with only one of the coil pack not funcionin

I dont think it will function either, but thanks for the part name. I'm on vacation and trying to find wrenches to take the thing off, but I am determined to fix it.

Well, I replaced the coil to the tune of $100 (not my money though:icon_thumby:) and that did not help. Apparently it works with a cracked coil. The same problem persists and I am now waiting for the mechanic with a scanner to read the CE light problem.

Thanks for the help

The coil packs get tired after awhile, after 12 years they may just need replaced.

Dunno about Toyotas but you are supposed to be able to find smoking hot deals on complete sets of brand new aftermarket coil packs on Ebay for Fords.

But the smart thing is to break out the scanner and see what the problem is before you start throwing parts at it.

blown headgasket?

Got the truck running for a bit today. Fuel system seems ok. Pump is running and there is fuel going into the engine (felt it running through the lines right before the fuel rail. While running, GF shut the door and the engine died. Got it going again and shook the while thing, again, the engine died. I noticed that the NEW coil is again cracked and felt very hot to the touch. As I look at the first picture, I can see there is some old fluid spread along the engine cover. Any ideas guys/gals??? My worst fear is a blown head gasket, is this what happens??

Thanks again!

pull the plugs and look at them make sure they are good and check the wires for breaks and such if those are bad it could cause the coil to over heat because it does not disapate the energy

Ok you are dealing with a 5vzfe. Its a waste spark system. 3 coils on one side and three wires on the other side.

1. check plug gap and check for dual prong spark plugs
2. check resistance on coils primary side (between terminal) like 12 ohms
3. check resistance between one of the terminals and the prong for the wire
one should read infinity and the other like 8000-12000ohms
4. check resistance on spark plugs wires around 1000ohms per foot of length
5. clean maf sensor with maf sensor cleaner
6. check fuel filter(mine clogged the mashine at work it was that bad)
7. clean throttle body

I own a T100 also please give me a call I think I seen something in the picture that might not make your truck run.

My phone number is: 540-717-1748 My name is Ben.

Just give me a call and I will try to help you as much as possible.
