I finally found a M50D-R1 manual trans for my 4.0L swap. Located in a salvage yard in Detroit. It came out of an 94 Explorer. Now my next step is what overhalling should I do with the trans. I suspect that some of the past threads has this information. However this note is easier. What is the list of items to address on the trans before I install it?

tear it down first, see what it needs you might find a gear or two is all chewed up or it might just need a set of syncros. but bearings, seals, and syncros should be replaced while you have it apart.

replace the shifter plugs while you have easy access. The plugs are known to leak and there is an article in the tech library about it.
