Having issues with my 4x4 shifter after I swapped in a manual case.

Everything is correct to 1988, FM146 equipped B2, except the case itself which came in my 87 Ranger. The problem I am having is the shift lever is coming off the pawl when I hit 2-hi. The only conclusion I can come up with is that the pawl for the 88 is longer.

Can someone with that particular setup measure the shifter pawl on the case side and let me know how long it is.

Cool, 97 views, no replies.

Well, I guess I'll update this with what I found for myself.I went to the junk yard yesterday and found an 88 manual/manual B2 and snagged the shift pawl off of it. Got home, held them up together and found that the later one is about 1/2 in longer than the earlier one. My 4x4 shifter is working properly now.

I didn't see your post until now, but yeah there was a post about that a month or two ago with someone that ran into the same issue.
