Just finished up the build thread.. I am glad to see the Cragar SS wheels are still in the mix... In my opinion those wheels made the truck stand apart from others. Amazing job as usual.
Just trying to keep up with you multi :icon_thumby:

Welp kiddies. Here’s a lesson in physics for you.

A 400 horse engine
A stock 700r4 with a 2200 stall converter
And a very heavy right foot

Can we guess the outcome?

Blew the farggin front pump right out of her. And I’m pretty sure the 2-3 gear is busted. Whole bunch of grinding going on when you try to stick it in gear.

Th350 time!

I can’t say I was trying real hard. But with 400 horse. I wasn’t driving easy. I’m shocked the front pump exploded before the 7.5 rear did. Oh well

Eventually I’m going to stick a 4 or 5 speed in it. So for now the th350 Will work. Just gotta order a 2700 stall converter.

Don't know anything about them, common to explode the pump with higher hp?

Isn't the 700r4 based on the th350?

Yeah the front pump is weak on the 700 in stock form. Also the planetary is weak. Mine was having a problem with a hard first gear shift. And super soft almost slipping 2-3 shift. It’s days were numbered

Yes the 700 is based on the 350. But the 350 in stock form is much stronger. And has a better gear ratio. 2.54 first vs the 3.06 first in the 700.

Thanks for the info. I'm contemplating using a 700r4 behind a built 2.3l [supposedly 250 - 300 HP]

Use the later 700 from 88 and on. They are the stronger ones. And make sure the tv cable is spot on. You’ll be just fine. I’m making 400 horse and I haven’t been easy on the old girl. So I can’t fully blame the trans. Just wasn’t designed for what I do

New 25-2800 stall converter is on its way. Going to pull the engine and transmission as a package. I’m not happy with the oil pump I used on the build. So now is a good time to change it out.
