On the 1st gen Rangers, is there a hood spring that lifts the hood ever so slightly when you pull the latch in the cab?

On my 87 (which was wrecked and then butchered together and prettied up by the previous owner in less than desirable ways) when I pull the hood release, the hood does unlatch, but it doesn't raise up a little to get your fingers under it.

I broke a hood "bumper" the other day and it got me to thinking about this issue. I still need to pick up another adjustable bumper to install, but if there's supposed to be a spring to raise the hood a tad then I'll pick that up as well.

Does anyone have any pictures that show what I'm talking about?

I don't think there is. I think it is compression of the hood bumpers that do that.

My hood bumpers aren't spring loaded or anything like that. They're just height adjustable plastic pieces. Maybe I should buy some genuine Ford pieces, because these are a cheap plastic piece and going by pictures on Google, Ford pieces seem a lot thicker and look to be more of a rubber compound?

I think I'll order some OEM stops and see if that helps me. Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it.

Mine look more like these. Probably Dorman parts or similar..

While the Ford replacements look a little thicker and more flexible to me..

I'd start there. Mine look more like the second picture. My hood doesn't come up a bunch, but just enough that it seems like something is decompressing under it.

Odd thing, trying to look up first gen adjustable hood bumpers yields no results. I could only find 98-11 stuff. I have noticed that the ones installed in my truck do move around a little too. Like they're a little too small to fit tightly in the square hole in the core support.

BroncoGraveyard is the only place I could find them. I think I'm also missing the rubber bumpers that go along the sides of the hood, but I'm just not sure that the 1st gens had them.

I think my truck missing part #8 is why the hood doesn't pop up a little where you can get your fingers under it. I think I'll just order all of the rubber parts soon, but the bumpers you mention I want to buy oem Ford due to my earlier concerns in my 3rd post.

Well, my dumb a** finally figured out why my hood wasn't popping up when opening. I went and had a look at a few of my parts Rangers/Bronco II's.. Pulled a hood spring from an 89 Ranger, scuffed/cleaned it, gave it a few shots of black enamel and bolted it in.

The hood now pops up just as the factory intended.

So that's what that is.

I should salvage that off my bad hood.

Yep, it pushes down on the top of the hood latch body.

Talk about feeling stupid! :icon_twisted::icon_confused:
