My credo
it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
that is what its looking like. 6r80 is better bet

they indicated to me you can turn the 2.3 mustang 4 cyl into a 4x4 version, which was previously described to me to not be possible...and not having had one apart of each i dont know.

so an updated 5r55e for now will have to do.

I hate to restart a thread that's almost a year old, but I think you guys may be able to help me. I have a 2002 4.0 Ranger with a dead 5r55e and have the opportunity to get a replacement pretty cheap out of another 99 4.0 Ranger. I've done some research, but I can only see people putting 01+ transmissions in 98-00 Rangers and mixed results answers regarding the other way around.

Will a 99 tranny work with the 2002 and will I need to do anything special wiring wise? I know it will physically bolt up and fit with the bell housing, but not what else may need done. I can get you guys any other details if you need. Thanks ahead of time!

My credo
I poop in the furnace.
The 99 is a 4r55e the 02 is a 5r55e. They are physically identical transmissions. Only the computer software is different. (The computer in the 02 truck has the ability to turn on overdrive while in first gear to make a fake second gear and giving it a total of 5 speeds)

The only issue with swapping between the two would be where the VSS sensors are. Some are on the differential, some on the trans. When they switched I have no idea...
