Hey there folks,
I have been reading every post about this issue for hours and none of them addressed my issue or they did not have a complete thread.
I have a 2000 Ranger 4x4, 4.0 V6 (V.I.N. 1FTYR11X6YPA36711). According to all that I have found, it should be the 5R55E. When I got it (used) the overdrive was finicky but would engage. Now, a few months later that is not the case. All other gears and shifting (including passing) seem to work fine. If I drive for awhile regardless of highway or surface streets, the O/D light will flash at me. The time frame for this happening is random and does not happen all the time. I have read about issues and fixes for just about every other gear/shifting problem on these forums but nothing complete about this one.
Does anyone have any idea what this is or where to start looking? I don't want to just start randomly replacing parts until it works again.
