i recently replaced heads on my 1990 2dr exp ,both heads had small cracks.
bought two used heads maged and had valves ground put the heads back on
runs great. my problem is now when it gets warm the lifters are noisy. 2.9s
were adjustable rockers on 4.0 are not so i cant adjust valves. my oil pressure
is 35 lbs at idle, and with valve cover off getting plenty of oil up top on rockers. i tryed adding stp oil treatment made it worse beleave it or not!
im not sure if valve stems were ground to short or lifters are just warn out.
i can turn push rods when cam is down ?
im stumped on what to try next any help appreciated
thanks

Did you make sure to get the rods back in the exact spot they came from?

4.0s galled push rods because of issues with the design of the lube hole and it caused a tick. The best fix is new rods and lifters and to chamfer out the ends of the hole to make a funnel shape.

that's new pushrods and ROCKERS that are the fix.

there is rarely if ever an actual problem with lifters in a 4.0.

Haha, oops. I meant rockers. I was a bit out of it the other night.

well from my first post its been a few months, finally bought rebuilt rocker arms and push rods installed today.i do have about a 50% reduction in rocker arm or
lifter noise. my oil pressure warm is 35 lbs which i consider acceptable.i know can only conclude that my lifters are collapsing when warm, the lifters are silent on startup and start clacking when warm.the cheapest i have found these roller lifters are about $255.00 a set,not cheap! the real bummer is ive read i will need to re pull my heads to get lifters out.
anybody have any ideas or another fix.
thanks steve
