Not sure if adding a Tachometer (rpm gauge) will do anything to the computer.
BUT... there are wiring schematics (diagrams) on the pkg, check to make sure the Tach will work with your vehicle and follow the instructions. Isn't hard, power, ground, sensor and light wires; the questions is exactly where to hook them up in your vehicle.
Stick to a name brand product, Auto Meter, Stewart Warner, Sun and others, so you will be able to call their Customer Service Line if a problem arrises.

Sorry that isn't too much help but Get'r Done !

first your tach must have the following: 12v source wire, ground wire, signal wire, lights wire.
now follow this: the 12v wire must be connected to a 12v wire that always has power, even if the truck is off, that way the lights, if it has varoius colors to choose will stay as u selected it this must be connected to a yellow wire in your harness, behind the dash cluster, the ground wire: black, wire lights wire:brown or white with black stripe, located in the lights switch, tach signal:tan with stripe or yellow with stripe, located i the harness or ignition coil. hope this helps
