I screwed up..... Trying to help me dad out who has a 2005 4.0L Ranger, I bought a 2002 3.0L Ranger w/ no title but super low miles on engine. Can I swap just the engines out or will I need to swap transmissions as well.... or will it need even more?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Engine, trans, wiring, lots of wiring.

Oh, and the 3.0 sucks as a truck engine. It will be noticeably disappointing compared to a 4.0 SOHC.

My credo
I poop in the furnace.
I dont remember what year they changed to the digital dash, but they are paired to the computer as well and linked to the pats system.

Overall this is a terrible idea any way you look at it.

Welcome to TRS :)

No, you shouldn't

You CAN do anything, but the money and time you would spend wouldn't be worth it, simple as that.
Ford dealer would have to be involved as well, as said 2004 and up Rangers have security which requires Ford Dealer to reprogram system if you change computer, and the 4.0l computer can't run 3.0l engine, so that would be required

Part out the 2002 Ranger and use that money to fix the 2005 Ranger

If you have keys for the 2002 Ranger then they need to be sold with its computer, this adds value to used 1999 and up Ranger computers as they have PATS security
So when you advertise parts say computer includes key(s), worth a few bucks more
