Hey guys, need a little info.

My buddy's kid smoked the auto in his 2000 4.0 4wd ranger.

He has a 93 4.0 5 speed 4wd truck for a donor.

What all can be used from the donor and what all else would he need

Pretty much just the trans and a few plugs and peripherals can be used. T-case too if it is manual. The clutch may be usable, but why would you? Starter and block plate will need to be swapped over as well, the older starter is a different part number, but will work.

He will need a pedal assembly, flywheel, computer will need replaced with a manual one, or custom tuned to remove the auto trans BS.

Wiring harnesses that exist on the truck can be used, with minor modifications. If the trans you have has the neutral switch in the shifter plate I would run the start circuit through it to avoid needing a clutch switch, which the wires probably don't exist for in the dash.

M5OD-R1 from 4.0l 4WD will bolt up fine to 4.0l auto engine and transfer case

You will need a Flywheel for 2000 4.0l crank as it used 8 bolts and '93 only used 6

Clutch brake pedal assembly changed in 1995 so don't think '93 will work in the 2000
Also get new Master cylinder and Slave for 2000 Ranger year and clutch safety switch
They still had a Clutch Pedal Bypass in 2000 Rangers so you should be able to unplug that and plug it into the new clutch switch.
All Rangers were wired for Manual trans until 2003, so 2002 and earlier used Bypass wiring harness for automatic

Not sure steering column would be a good swap over, depends on the options in the 2000, you would have PATS to deal with, you could just remove the column shifter arm, will look funny but..............
Or get a 2000 Manual steering column, I think 1999 to 2005 were the same

Outside of the transmission itself there isn't alot you can use from the 1993.
I forgot Floor plate and boot, you can use that

I don't think the column itself changed, just the upper trim cover.

Big help guys!!

How about trans crossmember? Is that different between auto/5 speed?

Can the 93 ECM be used in the 2000?

I am NOT doing the swap(thank god) but I want to help my buddy out the most I can(he is a tractor guy, not a truck guy)

So Trans, some plugs, starter, black plate(is that the piece between bell housing and engine?), trans tunnel plate, shifter,

Still would need full pedal assem?, 2000 flywheel, NEW clutch master & slave),

Can the 93 clutch switch be used in the 2000?

They are both electric shift t-cases. Would the drive shafts be the same ?

Drive shafts should come from the 2000.

Trans cross member should be the same.

93 computer absolutely cannot be used. It is a 60 pin OBDI computer, your friend's 2000 is using a 105 pin OBDII computer. They aren't even physically compatible, let alone functionally.

Ok guys.

need more inside.

My buddy dropped his kids truck off at the local trans shop. Guys said he would do conversion.
BUT, now it is all together and there flywheel appears to be rubbing the tin plate between the engine/trans.

Is the tin plate different on the 5 speed? Is there a flywheel spacer?
Suggestions?

The tin plate is different. I told you that in the very first response to this thread.

The fly wheel is bigger than the flex plate, and the hole is in the wrong spot. It kinda sorta works, but not really, because as you found out, it rubs.

The flex plate used a spacer to make it the same thickness as a flywheel so that there only needed to be one set of bolts.

It's possible. I noted that you need the one from the manual trans, but did not spell out the reasons that it needs changed.
