Single in/ single out 40 series original muffler..
An 88 has no way to see if the cats are there/working, but it is against forum rules to discuss their removal and a Federal felony to remove them. They also don't present nearly the issues they did back in the 70s when they were first introduced. A cat is not a restriction to proper flow unless it is coming apart. A gutted shell will have the same power robbing effect as stupid huge pipes do because that's what it becomes.

Sounds good thanks for the info. I have always been told to get rid of the cat to gain HP but I know you are a mechanic and I will not be doing that. Mostly rednecks telling me to take out the cat.
Years ago, between 75 when they were first mandatory and sometime around 1980 there was some validity to that, but it was more involved that just punching them and putting the empty shell back in. You had to replace the shell with a piece of pipe the same size as the rest of it.
