Usually when it refers to a breakout box you can figure out a way to do the same tests without the dealership tools.
Ill look over that section a bit better then. Once it said breakout box i skipped on past.

My breakout box is a set of sewing needles and alligator clips for my meter :)

Pierce the wires for testing then turn on the key or start the engine, which ever is needed for the test

One heads up, don't pierce wires so sewing needles can touch each other or ground out, stupidly been there done that, lol.

I was doing some testing again today.....i may or may not have it figured out, lemme run it by yall...

Checked on the main page, how to check the spark advance system, while running at idle, checking the spout voltage to the distributor base, i get right around 6.5 volts. According to the page it should be battery voltage, the battery was at 12.6 or so.

So i checked restance between pin 1 on the TFI and the spout plug, i couldnt get a reading...

So i then checked resistance between the spout and corrosponding green/yellow wire going to the TFI plug, and got 0 ohms.

The page says that resitance should be less then 1, but with 0 ohms wouldnt that say a wire is totally broken? But if thats the case then why does the engine run much better with the spout in place, and why am i getting 6 volts? Shouldnt i be getting 0?

0 ohms doesn't mean "disconnected", it means "perfectly connected" with no restrictions to the flow of electricity.

If the test says "look for a measurement less than 1 ohm" and you measure 0 ohms, then that is a perfect result to your test (and means that the wire is in extremely good condition).

Well with a new TFI module and no PIP codes why am i only getting 6 volts at the spout?

Ok i believe i have confirmed the wireing for the SPOUT is intact an functioning. I got 0 ohms between the spout and TFI, and 0ohms between the TFI and ECM connector. Assuming i tested correctly.

Where do i go from here? ECM?

it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
wiggle test. watch for break in continuity. it may be intermittently just barely grounding as well which will kill power obviously..so pin to pin for wiggle and pin to ground to check for ground...while wiggling.

this is a fresh or known good distributor?

pretty simple critters.

Did you have a chance to do this?
Have not. Didnt have my phone when i went last time.

I did the wiggle test and couldnt get anything to pop up or even get the motor to change tune.

Yes i pulled a distributor from rusty#1 and retimed it to 10*, still having issues.
