Hello, I'm new here. I just bought a 1995 Ranger 2WD, 2.3, 5 speed. Good solid truck with a couple of minor issues.

One is a check engine light which the seller told me was related to a sensor on the timing belt. He said it was on the back of the timing belt cover, under the AC compressor but didn't remember what it was. The engine had an occasional miss and he unplugged this sensor and put a jumper in and that fixed the miss but did not turn off the light. I just bought the car today, so I have no idea what codes are set yet (BTW, does this have an OBD II port?) but I'm curious what sensor is in that area so I can actually replace it and plug it back in.

That sensor would be the camshaft position sensor. If yours is a 1995 it would be obd1, not obd2. Some scanners have an adapter and can read it, and I'm not sure about yours, but many obd1 systems can be read with a paper clip. Not sure if the ranger had that setup, Chevrolet did, and I've used that before, just I don't remember which pins you go between. Google should be able to help with that. :-D

1995 was a transition year, my 95 is Odb2. You can check that easily, just look for the Odb2 port under the steering wheel, next to the parking brake release lever.

Ford implemented OBDII for most (if not all) of their vehicles in the 1995 model year.

I was pretty sure that 1996 was the initial year for OBDII, but I wondered if something like this didn't happen. I'll take a look.

1995 was a phase-in year and some Fords were OBD and some were OBDII.
Easiest way to check is the ODBII Port near the steering column under dash.
ALL early 1995 Rangers were ODB.
