I have a 2.3 in my Ranger with the YFA feedback carb. It's been humming along ok until recently. The mixture solenoid stuck open and then of course it wouldn't run at all. I got it to close by smacking it with a screwdriver, and then unplugged it. The truck runs a bit rich, but runs and that's how it's been for a while.
I'd like to get it back to some kind of normal; would it be better to try and replace the solenoid or find a non-feedback carb to put on. I think F150s in the late 70s used non-feedback Carters so it shouldn't be too hard to find one. My Ranger has the Duraspark ignition so there shouldn't be any problems with that from what I've read.
If I go the non-feedback route, does anyone know how much of the computer/emissions control stuff on the passenger fender and associated wiring/vacuum lines I can remove without causing other problems?
