Ok, I should know this stuff..., but today, I don't.
My 98 Ranger 4x4 xlt king cab 3.0L with 245,000 miles.
The story is: I haven't been driven her all that much over the last year and she's been sitting. I took 'er out last week for some reason and hit the brakes in traffic and lost brake pressure! The front right hydraulic line broke right near the frame rail, close to the hose connection.
So I carefully nursed it home.
I Went out to the parts store for some line and fittings. I felt the easiest thing to do would be to replace the whole line frome the hose up to the ABS module.(BTW:This vehicle has 4-wheel ABS). Had no issue with that.
I thought maybe I could get away with just bleeding the one line....wrong-o! Also, the Master Cylinder never lost all fluid. I was careful to keep it full as to not introduce more air into system.
So what now? I have to bleed the whole system?! I tried to open the rest of the bleeders and the right rear broke, so I had to replace the wheel cylinder.
So I got them all flowing and had my father give me a hand with the pedal. I bled from LR, RR, RF, LF.
Still no pedal!
I got out the Snap-on SOLUS-PRO Scan Tool. Was able to activate the ABS module. Then what? Am I supposed to bleed them by hand again?
What am I missing here?
I'd really like this truck back on the road. Thanks.
