I changed the oil on my 94 Ranger 3.0 and noticed that it smelled like fuel..alot! Never has done it before . My cel is on at times and I feel that my ecu is in "loop" because during initial startup , it idles fine it idles down , starts missing a little bit and my vacuum drops down 2-3lbs. Thanks in advance for the help. The cel shows low egr pressure.

I'm no pro at this one, but a shot here. Maybe you have 1 or more injectors that are leaking gas, after the engine is shut down. That could possibly put unburnt gas into the cylinders that could leech into the crankcase. I just read a post here somewhere on how to test injectors for leakage, but I won't chance trying to describe it here.

You can check injectors by pulling them outta the manifold but leaving them connected to the wiring harness and fuel rails. Turn the key on. This will pressurize the system and step back and watch it. I had an injector that would form a bead of gas on it after about a minute when I performed this test. Pretty easy to swap out.

I doubt its an injector. But its could be. More than likely its a valve/head/worn piston rings issue.

But a vacuum test should let you know how to diagnose this. Is the vacuum steady?

the vacuum is steady at 15, feels like it wants to climb but can't . No bubbles in radiator . checked for leaks around the intake /nothing. Timing chain? Also did a vacuum test on the egr and nothing . I pumped it up to fifteen lbs .,and it didn't change idle, held vacuum good .I thank you for your help

Had an old Toyota that did this. Was told it was because it ran rich. It idled high all the time and smelt like gas if you got on it goin up a hill.

If concerned about leaky injector a simple check of the fuel rail will give some indication. If you key on it should come up to pressure. Even tho the fuel pump turns off after a couple seconds it should hold. If it stays at pressure there can't be much of a leak. If the pressure drops fairly fast there is something leaky. Doesn't have to be an injector but that is a possibility.
