Ok, so being stupid, I took off most of the bolts, nuts and screws on the shift motor assembly on my 07 Ranger, cleaned off the rust (where there was some), put grease on the threads to keep them from seizing and tightened them back down. I got to the 3 bolts holding the assembly to the transfer case, which had zero rust and came out easy. I put grease on the threads and baby gorilla tightened them. One stripped, not bad, but it slips another one felt like it's about to strip. Looking in the shop manual, it says those bolts are supposed to be about 7.4 ft. lbs., I must have went 20-30 ft. lbs. or so.
What can I do here? Clean the grease out and put a dab of thread-locker on each bolt?
