hey guys bought balljoints for my bronco ii a few months back and finally came time to do them, opened the box and realized the new castle nut wasn't there. called the parts stores around town and noone has any because its a machine thread
I'm sure there's a simple solution that's right over my head at the moment but seeing if anyone here has had luck somewhere finding them somewhere

thanks

Do the old ones fit the new ball joint?

A lot of times if a new joint doesn't come with a nut it's because the threads are machined to match the original nut.

lol I actually just ended up calling the 3rd location of advanced auto parts and it turns out the 4 other places I stopped at had unknowledgeable workers at the time. they were in a packet in an isle hidden somewhat

yes, most parts store workers are morons. i know this because i used to work at autozone. anytime i go in there now and they try and tell me they dont carry something, i say "follow me" and show them. both of the autozones i worked at had stuff in the back that wasnt in the computer and wouldnt come up if you searched it. just had to know where to look i guess.

It's not just "at the time". It's all the time.

I can't tell you how often I get into arguments with parts store guys over what options on my truck are in fact not relevant to the part that I am looking for. Like the guy that insisted the cab style made a difference in the power steering return line despite the fact that the only differences in the cabs are well aft of the part in question.

I've tried that. Around here that is surprisingly ineffective.

I like how I go in to rent a spindle puller that I know they have because ive rented it before and they tell me that they do not carry such a tool and I have to ask the manager who says the same thing. Then I walk back there and find it in 10 sec. Pisses me off the people they hire.:pissedoff:

I went to an Orielly's and to get a exhaust pipe gasket and they told me we don't carry any thing like that. I told them i am going to go to Napa and get the part and then they chased me out the door with the part in hand and said we found what you are looking for.

The worst part is if you know something about cars and other vehicles they don't want you to work for them. But if you can type they want you. It is just amazing how many people don't know a thing about the vehicle that they drive. The only thing they know is how to put gas or diesel in the vehicle that they drive.

Around my shop, we just started using steel lock nuts. some of the newer balljoints actually come with them now. No cotter pin needed
