2003 ranger XLT 3.0 automatic. Trans is not shifting into 2nd gear until I let off gas pedal. It revs up to almost 3-4k RPM, then I let off pedal and it shifts into 1st.

Back story ... Swapped out a used transmission. Symptoms before were very hard shifting from all gears and it would delay going into drive or reverse, after 5-10 seconds. After swap I replaced the VSS and the air intake control valve. The od light now flashes and the primary problem listed above. I'm just about ready to throw the towel in!! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

Don't do that. A towel in the transmission will really mess it up bad.
