Sure it hadn't been mentioned? Few choices - the discontinued FRPP ones, the stock Explorer ones (throw the tube type away) or the Torque Monster headers (hard to get now). Always can go the custom route. Some have used Mustang headers but having to move the steering column and raise the motor for clearance.

Coming in second just makes you the first loser!
My contribution: Hedman 88400 headers; 1.5" primaries, 2.5" collectors, 163$ from Summit Racing, and they fit like a charm on a 4x4, here are pics showing clearances. No interference with anything.

Would these fit on a 98 4X4?

Hey guys, I am going to do a 5.0 swap from a 99-01 explorer v8 into my 99 ranger 4x4 and I have been concerned not so much with header/frame/steering clearance because I have access to plenty of tools for fab, but more so header/spark plug clearance. I did some reading and some say that the Hedman 88400's will not clear 2 spark plugs on the drivers side gt40p head. Are most guys here using older engines with different heads or what? Basically I want to find headers with the best plug clearance for the P heads, and I then can worry about making everything else fit with some fab work here and there.

Also has anyone tried these?

I haven't had the funds to work on my swap, but I was considering these Ford Racing headers that I mentioned in another thread, and some ones from JBA that I mentioned a page or two back in this thread.

Was browsing the Ford Racing catalog earlier and noticed these, but hadn't ever heard of them mentioned before, and a search didn't show anything either. I wonder how they would fit in an RBV?

The Description in the catalog:

The JBA ones

Anyone ever tried these? Found them on ebay under "JBA 1650S-2 HEADERS 1965-70 MUSTANG GT40P HEAD" I tried to find them on the JBA site and couldn't, so maybe they are out of production? I need some headers for my 95 4wd conversion and I've read I need ones specificly for the GT40p heads.

I have had them on E6 and E7 heads and they work great with a bodylift.

I don't know of anybody that has tried them on either GT40P heads or in a '98+ Ranger. On my '85 the passenger side points right at where the firewall would be if I didn't have a bodylift.

I plan on doing 2-3 inches of body lift. So far it looks like the JBA would probably fit the truck the best, they have what looks like a lot of down turn for the passenger to help clear the firewall. Also looks like it hugs in pretty close to the block on the drivers side. The price isnt too bad at $379 on Amazon, and I am sure they are other places. The ford racing ones are nice but too expensive for my blood at over $500. By the way theres a set of Torque monsters up on ebay now, brand new for $850 buy it now :0

Make sure if you try the JBAs, that they have the "-2" on the part number (1650S-2 as opposed to just 1650S), since thats what denotes they are for the P heads.

EDIT: They also have 1650S-2JS which is silver ceramic coated, and 1650S-2JT which is titanium ceramic coated.

I have hooker conversion headers slip on collectors leaked very bad! but they did fit with steering shaft alteration used E bay ujoints still close. ended up welding collectors on was not easy had to cut open collector to fully weld each tube inside, now engine & headers must be installed at same time but not bolted together, the only upside is they must make more power then any of the others, 1 5/8" tube full equal length but are a complete pain in the ass

Hey ya'll, watch this
Are the gt40 heads worth it? Just scored a set cheap to go in my 84 b2 to replace the stock 84 Ford heads. The headers I am going to try are block huggers from summit. Will post how it works out

The GT40 heads are fine, it's the GT40P heads that cause a few issues with fitment and buying headers.

so i take it this thread is for bolt on no mod applications?

i have had good luck with the fox swap and sn95 351 stuff along with some early bronco pieces. they all require some frame mods though...seems these are all min mod stuff.
