It runs on 3 AA's. it turns on by movement (anytime the trucks running basically) and turns off when left still in an upright position (1,3,5 gears)

Yes. I made no modifications to the tap handle itself. It's made to turn off when its in the upright position at the bar via built in sensor.

Somehow I don't think an upturned Bushmills bottle would look "right" in my truck.

Especially when (as happens all too frequently) I find myself two states from home in the wee hours of the morning with my trailer lights not working

i have a kokanee tap downstairs i've been thinking about doing this with for about 2 months, but i like my stock one, and i'm kinda lazy... was looking at the threads inside the tap, thinking they look close to the shifter knob threads

Beer tap shifter write up:
1. Acquire beer tap handle of your choice (usually pretty cheap on ebay. Most are threaded at the bottom)
2. Find a bolt of correct pitch and size for the handle
3. Remove knob, boot, and shifter.
4. Line up the handle with the shifter and decide how tall you want your handle to be (mines about 3" taller than stock). Mark that spot on the shifter.
5. Cut the shifter at that spot and smooth off the top.
6. Thread the bolt into the shifter so you know where it stops. Figure out which direction the tap should go and butt it up against the cut end of the shifter. mark a spot on the head of the bolt and on the shifter so you can line it up.
7. Remove tap handle and weld bolt to shifter according to your marks.
8. Reinstall shifter and boot. Push boot down tight against weld (mine fit perfect) or trim the old boot to fit the way you want.
9. Thread on tap handle.
10. Rock on. "Officer, I swear to drunk I'm not god."
